This story of a scandalous trial in a Chicago courtroom in 1912 was ghostwritten for a client in 2000. The book focuses on a lawsuit brought by a penniless college coed who was expelled for "being of unfit character." The recounting, drawn from newspaper clippings and the client's memories, pits John D. Rockfeller, the world's richest man at the time, and his Dean of Students, Marion Talbot, against the student in a lawsuit that made sensational headlines across the country. The client, Harriet Tuve, noted in her Acknowledgements page of the book, "I have a deep feeling of peace within for finally making my mother's story known after all these years." |
